The consequences of a pallet racking collapse could be catastrophic…The chances of racking being damaged by forklifts is unfortunately, fairly high
• Helps compliance with PUWER
• Ensures all racking is safe for use
• A chronological list of all inspections undertaken
Unfortunately in a busy warehouse environment the chance of a forklift hitting racking uprights is a distinct possibility. Problems may also arise from loads being pushed too far back on racks and damaging the uprights, not to mention the loads themselves.
Racking is classed as work equipment and is therefore, covered by PUWER 1998 which state that employers have a responsibility to ensure that the work equipment they provide is safe to use and fit for purpose.
Safe-rack helps you to ensure your racking is safe to use and that the load on the racking is in good condition.
Each inspection pad consists of 52 two-part checklists. The checklist acts as a reminder to the inspector of everything that should be checked regarding the load and the racking. By adding crosses or ticks to the appropriate boxes the inspector can determine the safety of the rack and load. As each entry is made it automatically creates a record on the duplicate below providing an accurate record of all inspections completed.
Assuming everything is o.k. the checklist can be torn from the pad, folded in half to display its green side and placed inside a waterproof plastic wallet within the safety indicator displayed on the racking.
If a problem has been identified, the checklist can be completed accordingly, torn from the pad and passed to the maintenance department for action. The safety indicator on the racking indicates that the racking is unsafe for use and a decision can be made as to whether it should be unloaded or not.
