Industry News » Are You Aware of The New Guidelines on Erecting & Designing Scaffold?

11-05-2009

The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) has launched new guidance for scaffolding with tubes and fittings.

The new standard by which tube-and-fitting scaffolding should be erected and designed is now TG20:08 – A guide to good practice for scaffolding with tubes and fittings.  This enables you to comply with the European standard BS EN 12811-1, which supercedes BS 5973.

The main changes are:

  • The processes of justifying the design will alter, rather than the scaffold
  • Façade/sway bracing is fitted every six bays
  • There are more tie arrangements and alternatives, for greater flexibility
  • The arrangements for some sheeted scaffolds are more varied

Scaffold Inspections

Inspecting your scaffolding is as important as ever and our scaffold inspection system, Safe-scaff, makes this an easy task for any scaffold inspector.

Safe-scaff enables you to clearly identify if the scaffolding is safe for use, providing a highly visible status indicator for all workers to see.  The scaffold inspector simply works through the scaffold check list checking each component in turn.  Indicating a cross or tick in the appropriate box determines if the scaffold is safe or not.  As each entry is made, a duplicate master copy is also created providing a complete chronological list of all inspections undertaken.  If a fault has been identified, this is detailed on the checklist and handed to the site manager for rectification.
